Permitting Project
Emmonak Wind Turbines

Client

Alaska Village Electrical Cooperative, Inc. (AVEC)

Our Role

Solstice Alaska assisted the AVEC in permitting the Emmonak Wind Turbine Construction Project. Six 100kW Northwind Turbines were installed in the western Alaska community of Emmonak and a 9.5 mile distribution line with 160 poles was constructed from Emmonak to the nearby village of Alakanuk. Solstice consulted with USFWS and obtained approval for placement of the turbines under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the Endangered Species Act. We consulted with the State Historic Preservation Office and obtained their concurrence that the project would not impact cultural or historic properties. Solstice managed a subcontractor responsible for wetlands delineation and used the data to obtain a Corps of Engineers Wetlands Permit. Also, we obtained FAA Determinations of No Hazard to Air Navigation.
