Alaska Village Electric Cooperative, Inc. (AVEC)
Solstice Alaska was the project manager for an on-call contract to assist AVEC with environmental permitting and documents and site control for wind farm projects throughout the Alaska. Solstice Alaska led permitting activities on wind projects in Quinhagak, Shaktoolik, Teller, Toksook Bay, Emmonak, New Stuyahok, Alakanuk, Savoonga, Mountain Village, Stebbins, and Saint Michael. Working with AVEC and their engineers to determine the best location for meteorological towers, Solstice Alaska obtained Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) approvals for the placement of the towers. Solstice updated FAA approvals on existing wind turbines. Solstice also reviewed existing wind farm projects to ensure that environmental mitigation measures agreed to during permitting (including bird strike studies and tower diversions) were completed.
